Resolutions Checkpoint 2015: September

Resolutions Checkpoint 2015: September

I'm a few days overdue to check in on September's goals I set last month for my year's three focus areas.

As always, completed items are bold, and completed items that weren't on my original list are both bold and italicized.

September Progress

1. Reach a high intermediate level of French.
  • Watch at least one episode of Fais pas ci fais pas ça a week, taking screen shots and looking up words.
  • Make another attempt at doing some grit work with grammar: 10 pages from my workbook - Did 4 pages!
2. Diversify my income to three sources.
  • Select (meaning perhaps purchase) a WordPress theme for site. - Done, purchased.
  • Make site, have it go live. - Still working on this, but getting close to being "launch-able." Last week my brother T.J. took some photos of me and my workspace to use on the site.
  • Contact at least three ESL learners to pilot the program and provide feedback/testimony.
3. Eat a whole foods, plant-based diet; improve digestion.
  • Watch the documentary "Food Chains" on Netflix
  • Finish reading "The Willpower Instinct"

October Focus

1. Reach a high intermediate level of French.

I'm flying to Toulouse tomorrow, but am going to remind myself here that simply being in a place that speaks your target language does not necessarily mean you're going to learn it faster. This is a misconception by many.

You still have to make a focused effort to use the language in a variety of ways, cut out your native language, plus keep on with individual study. So, this month my goals are:

  • Use FluentU every day—even just 5 minutes is perfect.
  • Make grammar plan of attack (schedule/routine to cover all the topics I'm lacking from my base)
  • Buy Grammaire Progressive workbook from bookstore.
2. Diversify my income to three sources.
  • Finish bare minimum to make site go live (so I can proceed with the second bullet).
  • Contact at least three ESL learners to pilot the program and provide feedback/testimony.
  • Submit outline of guest post to FluentU
3. Eat a whole foods, plant-based diet; improve digestion.
  • Shop at the markets and buy lots of plants.
  • Read "The Happy Herbivore Cookbook"
  • Get in an exercise routine (It's sounding like this should be fairly easy to do, as Damien is an active fella!)
Take a look back at September—did you make progress towards any of your goals? What's one thing you want to accomplish in October?
