Thankful Thursday 4/7: Books

Thankful Thursday is a weekly segment that I began 1/10/13—read why here
I invite you to join me in practicing gratitude!

I've been reading a lot here in London, and although I've loved books my whole life, the other day I realized what a treasure they really are. Well, I probably haven't even fully appreciated them yet.

Someone experiences a lifetime of events, or spends years becoming an expert on a topic. Then they spend another year or two (or three, or four...), bringing an imagined story to life or sharing their greatest life insights/memories or explaining their research to you in the most coherent, organized way possible, and so on.

They chisel these things to leave only the best words standing, and editors help the writers to polish the words and messages even more. (That is, if they've made it through the difficult process of pitching a book and getting picked up by a publisher in the first place.)

And all of this work and knowledge can be yours often for less than an hour's wage. (Or free, if you use your public library!) It's really incredible.

I am thankful for books, and all of the incredible people who bring them to life!
